How Often Should a Business Website Be Updated?
Decide when to update website content, perform technical maintenance or consider a redesign based on real business and user changes.
Change business facts when they change
A new phone number, discontinued service, altered opening time or outdated price should not wait for a redesign. Update every place the fact appears, including page text, cards, forms and connected business listings where relevant.
Separate three types of update
- Content corrections keep the published information accurate.
- Technical maintenance keeps software and operational functions under review.
- A redesign changes the structure or experience when the existing site no longer supports the business.
Choose a review rhythm you can maintain
Assign an owner to check key pages and forms periodically, and add a review whenever the business changes an offer or launches a campaign. The interval should reflect how often information changes and how important the function is, rather than an arbitrary promise to publish every week.
Refresh articles for a reason
Revise guidance when an answer becomes incomplete, a source changes or customers repeatedly ask a missing question. Do not change publication dates or add filler simply to make the site appear active. Check related links whenever a guide is edited.
Recognize when editing is no longer enough
If new services cannot fit the menu, mobile tasks remain difficult or routine changes repeatedly break pages, review the structure. A redesign can then address a defined problem instead of replacing a working site solely because it looks familiar.
