How to Plan Content for a New Website

Create a useful website content plan by inventorying services, audience questions, proof, calls to action and approval responsibilities.

Start with facts the customer needs

Collect the services, audience, coverage, contact details and process before writing polished paragraphs. Record what the business does not offer as well. Clear boundaries help visitors judge fit and prevent the design from being built around incomplete assumptions.

Create a page worksheet

  • Page name and the main customer question it answers
  • One action the visitor can take next
  • Facts, examples and images needed to explain the topic
  • Person responsible for supplying and approving information
  • Existing content to reuse, update or remove

Write the useful parts before the headline

Describe the offer, typical requirements and next step in plain language. Then choose a headline that accurately summarizes the page. A memorable headline is less useful if the rest of the page has to explain what the service actually is.

Keep evidence connected to the claim

Use work images, credentials or testimonials only with the appropriate rights and approval. Explain the context of an example instead of implying it proves every project will achieve the same result. Missing evidence is a reason to simplify the statement, not invent support.

Review content as a journey

Read the service page, form and confirmation together. They should describe the same next step. Check that names, prices and contact details remain consistent across cards, full pages and navigation before the text is handed over for publication.
